I AM A STAY AT HOME WIFE AND MOTHER TO THREE CHILDRENIN NEED OF HELP AND OR ADVICE.  THIS YEAR OUR INCOME TAX RETURN OF OVER $9000 WAS INTERCEPTED FOR PAST STUDENT LOANS OF MY HUSBANDS. WE HAD NO CLUE OF THIS UNTIL WE RECIEVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING OUR MONEY WAS TAKEN. I KNOW THE PAYMENT WAS DUE TO THEM, BUT WE RELY ON OUR TAX REFUNDS TO HELP THROUGH THE WHOLE YEAR.  THIS HAS CREATED A DOWNWARD SPIRAL IN OUR LIVES. WE WERE EVICTED FROM OUR TOWNHOME AND HAD A FAMILY FRIEND OFFER US THEIR MOBILE HOME TO RENT.  NOT THE PRIME SPOT, BUT AFFORDABLE. EVEN STILL WE HAD TO DO MUCH RENOVATING BEFORE IT BEING LIVABLE.  BEFORE DOING THIS, WE HAD TO TAKE A CAR TITLE LOAN OUT ON OUR ONLY VEHICLE, WITH THE PROMISE OF ALL PYMTS BEING DUE ON TIME.  WE ARE NOW 3 MONTHS BEHIND.  I AM SO SCARED OF WALKING OUT ONE MORNING AND OUR CAR BEING GONE.  I HAVE HAD BANK ACCTS CHARGED OFF, CHECKS BOUNCE, YOU NAME IT. THE FUEL PUMP ON PUR VEHICLE WENT OUT WHICH ENDED UP COSTING OVER $600 TO FIX.  WE ARE BEHIND $1000 ON OUR DAUGHTERS BRACES PYMTS WHICH ALSO SCARES ME.  HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN TO YOUR CHILD THAT THEIR BRACES WILL HAVE TO BE TAKEN OFF A YEAR EARLY DUE TO LACK OF MONEY?  WE ARE AT THE END OF OUR ROPE.  MY HUSBAND WAS LAID OFF, BUT IS NOW WORKING AGAIN, BUT NO PAYCHECKS YET.  NOT TIL THE END OF THIS WEEK.  NOT SURE HOW GAS WILL BE PUT IN THE CAR THAT I HOPE IS STILL OUTSIDE WHEN I WAKE IN THE MORNING.  WE WERE ABLE TO GET A ONE TIME CHECK FROM OUR STATES DEPT OF HUMAN SERVICES, WHICH WAS AWESOME EXCEPT THAT ALMOST ALL OF IT WENT TO THE CAR REPAIRS. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON WHAT OPTIONS WE MIGHT HAVE?  WE ARE CONSIDERING BANKRUPTCY, BUT THAT WILL BE THE LAST STRAW.  I KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES STRUGGLING, BUT JUST PLEASE ADD US TO THE LIST OF OTHERS YOU MIGHT HAVE HELPED......SINCERELY, AMBER WARR.............FINANCIAL

Have your husband apply with William D Ford to buy all of his loans. They will put him on a set rate, and they have several payment options available. They have income contigent repayment plans that will allow him to pay based upon his income. You'll have to speak with them to see which payment plan will be the lowest for you. When he's not working he can apply for forbearance. There are also hardship rules that during times of not enough monies he can apply for. This will help him get a handle on loans so you don't lose next years taxes.

Start speaking honestly with all your bill collectors and tell them when you expect the first paychecks. For utilities look for LIHEAP and other agency programs that you can apply for to help you. Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, etc will all help once a year.

For food pantries start calling all the churches in the phone book and find out if they have a pantry or have numbers for others. You can go to more than one and that will help stock your pantry. I don't know how old your children are but if they are under the age of 5 they will qualify for WIC and this will give you lots of extra food for them such as milk, fruit/veggies, cheese, cereal, bread, peanut butter, and eggs. They also give you a voucher for rice/grains. It's not much but it's enough to help.

If they are school age you can apply to put them on reduced/free lunch. Most schools are now doing both breakfast and lunch so if this is the case it will allow your kids to eat twice a day five days a week. This will take a lot of pressure off you. You can also speak with the school social worker about finding community aid. They spend a lot of time working with the community so will have contacts.

 in response to Clare...

I just felt led to add the one thing that we are still learning and that is...

Sometimes what we think/feel that we need is NOT what He KNOWS we actually need so for so many of us we wait and wait for something and it doesn't necessarily coincide with His Master Plan for us.

I have known so many people who lost their FAITH and HOPE because they couldn't understand why He didn't provide for their needs. And yes, I personally have felt that way and occassionally will falter still to do this day. It's pretty amazing to me to see God working all around me now (sometimes in the tiniest ways) when before I never really saw His work (even though it was right there in front of me).

Ponder this for a moment... "Seeing is NOT Believing - Believing IS Seeing"

in response to Clare...   THANKS FOR RHE ENCOURAGEMENT.  AND I DO FEEL LIKE I/ WEE ARRE DOING EVERYTHING WE KNOW TO DO. YOU KNOW I KNOW YOU ARE TO TRUST GOD ALWAYS. HE IS THERE TO PROTECT & SUPPLY OUR NEEDS, BUT SOMETIMES ITS SO HARD TO JUST LEAVE IT UP TO HIM.  ALWAYS WANNA RUN THINGS MYSELF.

As I see it, you are doing the best you know how, and that is a blessing in itself.  I pray that you will maintain your courage until such time as things make a turn around.

"Believe in the Lord, and all things will come to you in the end"

This  is paraphrased, but believe it.  You will receive what you need, in time.
